We had Silva paint the exterior of our house two years ago, and were very pleased with the result. We therefore selected Silva to also paint all the woodwork throughout the interior of our house. That work was also done very well, and with the disruption minimized. (Work in most rooms was completed in one day so we were able to "reinhabit" the room after moving furniture away from the walls and have items covered by drop cloths.) The crew was courteous and efficient, and the cleanup was thorough. We highly recommend Silva painting,

I meant to post this review earlier, but life gets in the way - you know what I mean! After a basement renovation Silva’s came in for the painting job. There was no fuss, no muss! A few specific details were noted and taken care of. The team, and there WAS a team, worked efficiently and neatly. And even though it was during the holiday season the job was completed in the time promised. If you want a great job at a reasonable price and don’t want to worry about details— definitely call Silva’s!!

Excellent company that shows up on time and does not do sloppy work. They did 66 homes in our HOA and our gates to prevent rust. I highly recommend them

Lorenzo and his team painted the exterior of my Tudor in north Flushing. I was so pleased with the work done that I even recommended him to my neighbor, who also has a Tudor. He and his team were reliable, professional and detail oriented. The job done was quite exceptional and Lorenzo is a man who stands by his work.

What’s Included in a Color Consultation

  • A walkthrough of the rooms or exterior you want to paint
  • Palette suggestions from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams
  • Sample patches on your own walls so you can see them morning and evening
  • Sheen advice for each room, from flat ceilings to washable kitchen finishes
  • Exterior schemes with body, trim and accent colors that work together
  • Period colors for historic and older homes

Why Test Colors in Your Own Light

North-facing rooms make colors look cooler, while south-facing rooms warm them up. Floors, furniture and the color of the next room all change how a paint looks. Seeing samples on the actual wall avoids the most common painting regret.

Historic and Village Homes

In historic districts such as Douglas Manor, Forest Hills Gardens or the Village of Roslyn, exterior color changes may need approval. We help you choose period-appropriate colors and give you a written scope to bring to the board.

Common Questions

FAQs About Color Consultation in New York

Is color consultation included with my painting project?

Yes. Color help is offered as part of the painting projects we take on. It starts at your free estimate, where we talk through rooms, light, and the colors you have in mind, and continues with samples on your walls. Your final colors are written into the project scope so the crew paints exactly what you approved.

How many paint colors should I sample before choosing?

Two or three samples per room is usually the right number. Fewer leaves you without a real comparison, and more tends to make the decision harder. Paint each sample large, ideally on more than one wall, and look at them in the morning, afternoon, and evening before deciding.

Is Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams better?

Both are quality brands, and we use both. The better choice usually comes down to the specific color you love and the right product for the surface, like a scrubbable finish for a hallway or a durable enamel for trim and cabinets. We help you pick the color first, then the best product line for the job.

What paint sheen should I choose for each room?

As a general guide, use flat on ceilings, matte or eggshell in bedrooms and living rooms, satin in kitchens, bathrooms, and busy hallways, and satin or semi-gloss on trim and doors. Higher sheens clean more easily but show wall imperfections more. We recommend a sheen for each surface during your estimate.

Can you help me choose exterior colors that meet HOA or historic district rules?

Yes, we can help you choose colors within the guidelines that apply to your home. Approval comes from your homeowner association or the local agency that oversees your district, not from us, so check the requirements early. Bring any approved palette or rules to the estimate and we will help you narrow it down.

Why do paint samples look darker when they are wet?

Wet paint usually looks darker and sometimes glossier than it will once it dries. Always judge a sample after it is fully dry, and look at it in daylight and under your evening lighting. Two coats on the sample also give a truer read than one thin coat over the old wall color.
