We had Silva paint the exterior of our house two years ago, and were very pleased with the result. We therefore selected Silva to also paint all the woodwork throughout the interior of our house. That work was also done very well, and with the disruption minimized. (Work in most rooms was completed in one day so we were able to "reinhabit" the room after moving furniture away from the walls and have items covered by drop cloths.) The crew was courteous and efficient, and the cleanup was thorough. We highly recommend Silva painting,

I meant to post this review earlier, but life gets in the way - you know what I mean! After a basement renovation Silva’s came in for the painting job. There was no fuss, no muss! A few specific details were noted and taken care of. The team, and there WAS a team, worked efficiently and neatly. And even though it was during the holiday season the job was completed in the time promised. If you want a great job at a reasonable price and don’t want to worry about details— definitely call Silva’s!!

Lorenzo and his team painted the exterior of my Tudor in north Flushing. I was so pleased with the work done that I even recommended him to my neighbor, who also has a Tudor. He and his team were reliable, professional and detail oriented. The job done was quite exceptional and Lorenzo is a man who stands by his work.

Common Questions

FAQs About Cabinet Refinishing in New York

Can you refinish my cabinets in a lighter color?

Usually, yes, but going lighter takes more work than going darker. A lighter stain will not cover a dark existing finish, so the old finish has to be stripped to bare wood first. Some woods, like cherry, have natural color that limits how light they can go. We test samples on your cabinets so you see the real result.

How long does cabinet refinishing take?

A finish refresh can take just a few days, while a full strip and restain of a kitchen usually takes one to two weeks or more. Door and drawer count, the refinishing level, the species of wood, and drying time between coats all affect it. Your estimate includes a timeline for your kitchen.

Is cabinet refinishing more expensive than cabinet painting?

It depends on the level of work. A simple finish refresh is often the most affordable option of all, while a full strip to bare wood is labor intensive and can cost more than painting. Pricing really does depend on your cabinets, so your free estimate compares the options for your actual cabinets.

Can laminate or thermofoil cabinets be refinished?

No. Refinishing works on real wood, because the process depends on sanding, staining, and sealing the wood itself. Laminate and thermofoil have a plastic surface with no wood grain to restore, and they generally do not take paint well either. We will tell you honestly at the estimate what your cabinets are made of and what will work.

Can you match the stain on new cabinet doors to my existing cabinets?

We can get close, and we test samples first so you can judge the match. Every piece of wood absorbs stain differently, and older cabinets have aged and darkened over the years, so a perfect match is not always possible. Refinishing all the cabinets together is the most reliable way to get an even tone.

How do I care for refinished cabinets?

Clean refinished cabinets with a soft cloth and mild soap and water, then dry them. Avoid harsh cleaners, abrasive pads, and furniture polishes that leave buildup. The clear coat keeps curing for the first few weeks, so go easy on it, and wipe up water near the sink quickly.
